Essentials for Life (EfL), a natural health and aromatherapy products shop, received a loan from Women Ventures International in February 2007, which was used to expand EfL's services. This included setting up of a massage room, based on customer demand. It was a first step towards establishing a holistic Natural Health Centre, which would also have a steam room and sauna.
The loan was used to turn part of the shop's office into a massage room. With wooden partitioning, shelves and cabinets, a professional massage bed was moved in. A small changing room was also set up. Shea butter was acquired from the Northern region from a women's group, and essential oils from a local source. Some of these products are used for the massage therapy and the rest are sold in the shop.
Customers had been asking for some time about massages, when purchasing their health and aromatherapy products. I realized that there was a good market for the service and believed it would be a worthwhile investment. Since the room has been finished and the service begun, there have been many bookings and it looks like it will be an ongoing success.
